Project Update - July 2022
Construction on the Hermitage Park Renewal Project has resumed with completion anticipated in the fall of 2022. Roadway access leading to the north of the park will be closed for a few days in late July to facilitate repair work. Vehicle access will be maintained through the south entrance to the park. The City will rehabilitate the trail in the north end of the park leading toward the 20th street access points in August. Pedestrian and cyclist access will be limited at times. Construction in the south part of the park was completed in 2021, with some clean up activities still to take place in 2022. The project will attempt to minimize disruption to park users, so construction will be staged.
Project Overview
Hermitage Park is located in the northeast end of the city and is an important part of Edmonton’s river valley. The park is filled with natural trails, a large off-leash dog area and picnic sites. This park provides users a variety of opportunities to enjoy the outdoors.
In 2021, the City will rehabilitate the park roads, parking lot and entry and wayfinding signage to extend the life cycle of the park infrastructure and provide citizens the ability to continue to enjoy the park site for many years to come.
The purpose of this project is to replace the aging park infrastructure that has deteriorated over time due to heavy usage and weathering. The park has been identified as in poor condition and in need of repair and replacement.
The Hermitage area attracts a high volume of users; therefore keeping the City asset in good repair contributes to a safe public space that supports the goal of a healthy city.
