A new school park site will be developed in 2021 in the Chappelle East area in south Edmonton.

Project Overview

The City is currently in the planning phase for a new school community park site located in the Chappelle East neighbourhood in south Edmonton. The Chappelle East Park site will serve the needs of a new kindergarten to grade nine (K-9) school in the area, currently under construction by the Edmonton Public School Board. The Garth Worthington School is scheduled to open in September 2021 and will provide recreation amenities to the Chappelle neighbourhood. The park site may also be used by surrounding neighbourhoods.

Park Development

The park development will consist of:

  • Site grading
  • Possible installation of a catch basin to collect rainwater run-off
  • Topsoil and grass seed
  • Sportsfield development for baseball/softball and soccer fields for a variety of younger age groups
  • Shared-use pathways with lighting
  • Tree planting

The Chappelle East Park design also provides a placeholder for future shared level development amenities as per the Urban Parks Management Plan (UPMP).

It is anticipated construction will begin in spring 2021 and will be completed in fall 2021 to coincide with the opening of the school. However, this schedule may be impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic and the uncertainties it brings.
